A native of Washington D.C., Deborah Truitt received a B.A. with general and departmental honors, Phi Kappa Phi, at the University of Maryland, College Park. She relocated as a single mother to attend law school in Washington State in 1993, and received her J.D. at Seattle University School of Law in 1996. She was selected by Supreme Court Justice Charles Johnson to receive a CALI Award in State Constitutional Law as a result of her work in his seminar. Deborah has extensive experience in Juvenile law and litigated many dependency cases against the State of Washington. This has given her insight into the court proceedings leading to foster care placements and what happens after a child is placed in such a situation. Ms. Truitt and her partner Mr. Lyons recently settled a claim against the State of Washington for $6.4 million for foster care neglect.
